Southwest Airlines is making its Companion Pass more accessible for a limited time, allowing Rapid Rewards members to earn a two-month pass by booking just one round-trip flight or two one-way flights. Travelers must register for the promotion online and book their qualifying flights by 11:59 p.m. CDT on August 28. Eligible flights must be taken by November 15.

The offer applies to most fare types, including Rapid Rewards redemptions and Cash + Points bookings, but excludes the carrier’s new Basic fares. Those who qualify will receive a Companion Pass valid from January 6 through March 6, 2026. The pass allows travelers to bring a guest on Southwest flights with no additional airfare, though taxes and fees starting at $5.60 each way still apply.

Passengers can designate one companion but are allowed to change this selection up to three times during the two-month period. “We love offering Companion Pass because it allows Customers — new or long-time Rapid Rewards Members — access to the many benefits of our award-winning loyalty program,” a Southwest spokesperson told TPG.

Southwest’s standard requirements for earning an annual Companion Pass remain in place; travelers can qualify either by flying 100 one-way segments or accumulating 135,000 qualifying points in a calendar year. Points can be earned through travel or with eligible credit card spending.

This promotional campaign coincides with broader changes at Southwest Airlines. In July, the airline began selling assigned seats for flights departing after January 27, 2026, moving away from its open-seating policy (https://thepointsguy.com/news/southwest-assigned-seating/). Additionally, Southwest has announced a partnership with China Airlines and plans to allow Rapid Rewards members to redeem points on international partner airlines in the near future (https://thepointsguy.com/news/southwest-china-airlines-partnership/).

The airline continues efforts to expand its loyalty offerings and international reach as it adapts its business model.
