CEO Kelly Ortberg | Boeing

Boeing has moved up the delivery schedule for 25 of its 737 MAX 8-200 aircraft destined for Ryanair, with the jets now set to arrive by October 2025 instead of next spring. The announcement was made in Brussels by Ryanair Group CEO Michael O'Leary, who acknowledged past tensions between the airline and Boeing due to delays, quality concerns, and US tariffs.

Ryanair's fleet strategy is primarily focused on Boeing models, although it does operate a small number of Airbus A320-200 aircraft. Recently, O'Leary had publicly considered alternative suppliers—including Chinese manufacturer COMAC—if pricing and reliability did not improve. Despite these considerations, relations appear to have improved.

O'Leary commented on Boeing's recent performance: "The quality of what they're delivering is excellent, so we're really impressed. [The deliveries] give us a bit more capacity, and we feed that capacity by lowering airfares."

Earlier this year, O'Leary warned that ongoing issues could lead Ryanair to cancel over $30 billion in orders. However, assurances from Boeing regarding certification timelines for new models such as the MAX 7 and MAX 10 seem to have stabilized the partnership.

Ryanair currently operates over 600 aircraft—primarily Boeing narrowbodies—with nearly 200 more on order. The addition of new MAX jets is expected to lower both the average age of the fleet and potentially reduce fares due to increased seating capacity per plane; each MAX 8-200 features 197 economy seats compared with 189 on older models.
