German leisure airline Discover Airlines appears set to end its seasonal flights between Frankfurt International Airport and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport after the summer of 2025. According to data from Cirium, an aviation analytics company, the carrier has not scheduled service on this route for the 2026 season. The final flight is currently listed as departing on September 6, 2025.

Discover Airlines operates in direct competition with Condor, another German airline that offers three weekly flights on the same route during peak travel months. This year, Discover Airlines provided a twice-weekly service with a total of 566 seats per week in each direction.

A review of both Discover’s and parent company Lufthansa’s websites shows that only Condor will continue to operate direct flights between Germany and Alaska for the Northern Hemisphere summer season. Condor's operations include a variety of North American destinations year-round and additional seasonal routes, while Discover also flies to cities such as Calgary, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Philadelphia throughout the year.

With Discover’s expected withdrawal from Alaska, only three international airlines—Air Canada, Condor, and WestJet—will serve Anchorage during the summer months. All these carriers provide seasonal services; there are no year-round international passenger flights at Anchorage. However, domestic connections to the lower 48 states are maintained throughout the year by Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines.

Icelandair previously offered non-stop service from Reykjavík–Keflavík International Airport to Anchorage until summer 2021 but now focuses on Seattle with a code-share partnership with Alaska Airlines.

New Pacific Airlines had plans to launch low-cost operations connecting Alaska more directly with North America and Asia but has encountered difficulties in executing those plans.

Discover Airlines is fully owned by Lufthansa and targets leisure destinations around Europe, North America, the Black Sea region, and the Caribbean. It operates out of bases in Frankfurt and Munich. The airline allows frequent flyers to earn status through Lufthansa’s Miles & More program. In recent years it has withdrawn from several North American markets including Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver in Canada; Varadero in Cuba; Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic; Panama City in Panama; as well as Atlanta and Salt Lake City in the United States.

Simple Flying contacted representatives for Discover Airlines and Lufthansa but did not receive a response before publication.
