JetBlue, the sixth-largest airline in the United States by flight numbers this September, has seen its network activity decline compared to last year. According to Cirium Diio data, JetBlue averages 725 daily takeoffs and landings. The carrier accounts for 2.4% of U.S. domestic flights, 8.1% of short-haul international flights, and 2.2% of transatlantic services.

Compared to September 2024, JetBlue's overall operations have decreased by about ten percent. Despite this reduction, schedule analysis indicates that JetBlue is operating 233 routes this month—154 domestic and 79 international—down from 239 a year ago.

The airline’s top ten routes for September show notable changes in both frequency and ranking. The leading route is now New York JFK to Los Angeles, which replaced Boston-Washington Reagan as JetBlue’s busiest city pair. This shift comes after a significant reduction in service on the Boston-Washington Reagan route; departures dropped from 319 each way last year to 214 now—a third less than before. The decrease follows the end of JetBlue’s Northeast Alliance with American Airlines, resulting in JetBlue falling from the largest operator on that route to third place behind Delta and American.

New York JFK-Los Angeles currently leads with up to eleven daily departures and makes up one-third of all flights between those airports among carriers. While JetBlue operates more flights on this route than any other single carrier, Delta offers more seats due to its use of larger aircraft.

Two international routes—JFK-Santiago (Dominican Republic) and JFK-Santo Domingo—are included among the top ten busiest city pairs for JetBlue this month. San Juan also features prominently but is classified as domestic since Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory.

Several routes served in September 2024 are absent from the current schedule. These include transatlantic services like New York JFK-London Gatwick; as a result, JetBlue's offerings at Gatwick have been reduced by half. Cuts also reflect a strategic pullback from certain hubs such as Los Angeles, Raleigh/Durham, Newark, and New York LaGuardia.

Some discontinued routes are expected to return later in the year when demand rises during winter months—for example: Boston-Nassau, Phoenix, Providenciales (Turks & Caicos), St. Maarten; and JFK-Grand Cayman.

JetBlue continues to focus on maximizing performance through seasonal adjustments while maintaining key connections at major hubs including Boston Logan International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, New York JFK Airport, Orlando International Airport, and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Joanna Geraghty serves as CEO of JetBlue Airways.

"JFK-Los Angeles is now first. The airport pair is the US's top domestic market by passengers and revenue. JetBlue has a third of the flights, which is more or less unchanged year-on-year. It is the leading operator by this measure."

"This reduction was a consequence of the end of JetBlue and American's Northeast Alliance."

"In contrast, some of the routes will return later in 2025...JetBlue is just focusing more on the winter months in its quest to improve yields, loads, and performance."
