Virgin Atlantic recently transported a Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut, valued at $5.3 million (£4 million), from London to Los Angeles as part of its regular cargo operations. The rare hypercar was flown on August 5 aboard Flight VS23, operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner registered as G-VSPY. The flight departed from London Heathrow Airport and arrived at Los Angeles International Airport, covering over 5,000 miles.

The Jesko Absolut is produced by Swedish manufacturer Koenigsegg and is known for being one of the fastest cars in the world. It features a 1,600-horsepower twin-turbocharged V8 engine capable of speeds exceeding 300 mph.

Nick Diesel, Managing Director at Virgin Atlantic Cargo, commented on the operation: “It’s not every day you fly a £4 million hypercar on a passenger aircraft, but that’s exactly the kind of challenge our team excels at. From precision handling to specialist cargo processes, we’re proud to offer the kind of white-glove service trusted by collectors, curators, and creators around the world. Moving this extraordinary car was a privilege.”

The shipment was organized in collaboration with Pro-Logist for automotive influencer Zach’s Garage. To ensure the vehicle's condition during transit, it was securely loaded at Virgin Atlantic Cargo’s DCE facility and handled as priority freight throughout its journey.

Virgin Atlantic Cargo has played an important role in the airline's business since its founding in 1984. Each year it transports more than 150,000 tonnes of goods worldwide through its network. In 2020, Virgin Atlantic operated its first cargo-only charter between London Heathrow and New York JFK using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to deliver urgent pharmaceutical supplies.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is central to these operations due to its range and capacity. The aircraft can travel up to about 7,635 nautical miles (14,140 km) and carry approximately 19,175 kg (42,274 lbs) of cargo per flight. This makes it suitable for long-haul routes such as London–Los Angeles while supporting other destinations within Virgin Atlantic’s network.

Virgin Atlantic currently operates 17 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners configured across three classes: Upper Class (31 seats), Premium (35 seats), and Economy (192 seats). These aircraft are regularly deployed on major routes including those connecting North America—such as Miami, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York JFK—as well as international cities like Toronto and Johannesburg.

According to Cirium data cited by aviation industry sources https://www.cirium.com/, Virgin Atlantic is scheduled to operate over 780 flights with the Boeing 787-9 this month across its network. On the London Heathrow–Los Angeles route alone there are typically two daily departures each way; however this will increase temporarily to three daily flights on September 22–24.
