Raj Subramaniam President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director FedEx Corporation | FedEx

FedEx has announced the official opening of a new logistics hub at Istanbul Airport. The company said the facility, which began operations in August, is a long-term investment aimed at strengthening its global transport network and supporting international trade with advanced infrastructure and technology.

The opening ceremony was attended by Raj Subramaniam, president and CEO of FedEx Corporation; Richard W. Smith, COO International and CEO Airline, FedEx; Wouter Roels, president of FedEx Europe; Eser Sezek, vice president of ground operations FedEx Turkey; Selahattin Bilgen, CEO of Istanbul Airport iGA; M. Ilker Haktankacmaz, manager of Istanbul Airport; Abdullah Enis Eker from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority; Burhan Akyol from the General Directorate of Civil Aviation in Istanbul; and other officials.

Richard W. Smith stated: “Nowy hub w Stambule stanowi dla FedEx strategiczny krok w kierunku dalszej integracji sieci lotniczej i drogowej FedEx, dzięki czemu możemy zaoferować skalę i elastyczność, jakiej oczekują nasi klienci w dynamicznym otoczeniu gospodarczym.” He added: “To także ważna decyzja, która pozwoli jeszcze lepiej wykorzystać potencjał naszych połączonych sieci, rosnące znaczenie transportu lotniczego oraz tworzyć długoterminową wartość.”

The hub’s location in Istanbul places it at a crossroads between Europe, Asia, and Africa. Each week it will handle 30 flights to key markets in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. This move is expected to help expand FedEx’s regional network. The company’s road network covers 45 countries and manages about 1.3 million shipments weekly. Istanbul Airport is currently the busiest cargo hub in Europe. Last year it handled nearly two million tons of cargo—an increase of 24 percent compared to the previous year.

The new FedEx facility covers over 25,000 square meters and includes office space for handling all main logistics activities under one roof—from air freight processing to customs clearance. The site features an automated sorting system capable of processing up to 7,000 packages per hour after tripling its capacity. There are also three automated x-ray scanners supported by artificial intelligence for faster and more secure parcel screening.

Wykorzystując tu najnowocześniejsze technologie i zaawansowane rozwiązania z dziedziny automatyki, budujemy jeszcze bardziej inteligentną sieć, aby dostarczać naszym klientom najwyższej jakości usługę.”

He added: “Ta ważna inwestycja wzmacnia naszą pozycję wiodącego gracza w globalnych sektorach cargo i e-handlu. Wspiera także naszą długoterminową wizję stworzenia najważniejszego lotniska obsługującego transport lotniczy, z docelową przepustowością na poziomie pięciu milionów ton. Z radością witamy FedEx jako strategicznego partnera naszych ambitnych planów rozwoju i z niecierpliwością czekamy na udaną współpracę w najbliższych miesiącach i latach.”

The event marks a significant step for FedEx as it seeks to enhance its global logistics services through expanded capacity and advanced technology at a major international gateway.
