Avelo Airlines has entered into an agreement to acquire up to 100 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, marking the largest order in its history and making it the first U.S. airline to operate this type of jet. The deal consists of a firm order for 50 aircraft with options for 50 more, totaling $4.4 billion at list prices. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027.

The new Embraer jets will join Avelo's current fleet of Boeing 737NGs, which have an average age of over 17 years. The carrier has not confirmed if or when it will retire its older Boeing models but stated that both types would operate together "for the foreseeable future." According to Avelo, the E195-E2’s performance features, including short-field capability and enhanced takeoff systems, will enable service to constrained airports and longer-range destinations.

"We are thrilled to partner with Embraer and bring this best-in-class small narrowbody airplane to the United States marketplace. Our customers will love the E2’s comfortable 2x2 seating, in-seat power ports, large overhead bins, and quiet cabin. The aircraft’s exceptional performance, size, and efficiency make it the perfect choice for the future growth of our scheduled service network. The airline industry in the United States is evolving, and the E2 fits perfectly with our vision for Avelo’s unique role in that evolution."

This announcement follows a strong year for Embraer, which has secured over 100 commercial orders so far. Earlier in the year, All Nippon Airways ordered 15 E190-E2s; SkyWest Airlines placed an order for 60 E175s with additional options; SAS committed to 45 E195-E2s plus further options. At the end of June's Paris Air Show, Embraer's backlog stood at approximately $7.4 billion—making Avelo's new order worth more than half that amount.

At present, Embraer has a backlog of 208 commercial planes pending delivery at the end of this year's second quarter. These include significant orders from American Airlines (90), SkyWest (74), and Republic Airlines (35). The company's recent success in North America was also supported by a special exemption from U.S. tariffs announced in July.

Despite losing out on LOT Polish Airlines' major fleet renewal earlier this year—where LOT selected Airbus A220s instead—the manufacturer has continued to secure substantial business elsewhere.

Avelo Airlines operates as an ultra-low-cost carrier with hubs at Hollywood Burbank Airport, Tweed New Haven Airport, Harry Reid International Airport, Orlando International Airport, Raleigh–Durham International Airport, and Wilmington Airport.
