Earlier this week, American Airlines announced it will begin service to South Bimini Airport (BIM) in the Bahamas starting next year. The new route will be operated by 76-seat Embraer E175 aircraft under the American Eagle regional brand.

The flights will connect Miami International Airport (MIA), a major hub for American Airlines and a key gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean, with South Bimini. According to the airline, it currently operates more flights to more destinations in the Bahamas than any other US carrier.

Service is scheduled to start on February 14, with up to three round trips per week between Miami and Bimini. Flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Brian Znotins, American Airlines' Senior Vice President of Network Planning, stated:

"American knows that travelers are looking for unique and varied experiences, and that’s why we’ve added destinations like Bimini to our network. We recently announced new routes for travelers to explore unique architecture in Prague or Budapest or ski down exciting slopes in Sun Valley, and now we’re offering a new island option in the Bahamas."

This route will be "the only nonstop service to Bimini from the United States," according to American Airlines. The aircraft operating these flights will come from Envoy Air, one of several feeder airlines under the broader American Eagle brand.

Data from Cirium indicates that Bimini is located just 64 miles from Miami International Airport. This proximity results in a short flight time of about 60 minutes each way. Flight AA4108 is scheduled to depart Miami at 10:05 and arrive at 11:05 local time; it returns at 11:50 under the same flight number.

Miami's status as a hub allows passengers flying into Bimini to connect from over 80 destinations across the US and Canada. With this addition, American Airlines now serves seven destinations in the Bahamas and remains "the only US airline flying to Governor’s Harbour and Freeport."

The Embraer E175 jets used on this route offer three cabin options: First Class with 12 seats arranged in a 2-1 configuration providing extra width; Main Cabin Extra with additional legroom; and Economy Class. However, unlike similar aircraft operated by Republic Airlines or SkyWest, Envoy Air's E175s do not feature an in-seat power supply.
