Eight new transatlantic routes will debut in 2026, linking the US and Canada to Europe and the Middle East with airport pairs that have not been previously served. The upcoming services reflect growing demand for direct international connections from North American cities.

Among the newly announced routes is Etihad’s planned service from Abu Dhabi to Charlotte, marking the first time a Middle Eastern carrier will operate at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. This airport serves as a hub for American Airlines, which accounts for 88% of its flights. The route covers 6,437 nautical miles (11,921 km) each way and will operate four times weekly using a Boeing 787-9. Passengers traveling through Abu Dhabi will have access to US pre-clearance facilities.

Delta Air Lines will launch two new transatlantic services from Seattle: one to Rome Fiumicino starting May 6 with four weekly Airbus A330-900 flights, and another to Barcelona beginning May 7 with three weekly flights on the same aircraft type. Alaska Airlines has also announced plans to fly between Seattle and Rome but has not yet published a start date or schedule.

Royal Jordanian is set to begin flights between Amman and Dallas/Fort Worth on May 10, using a Boeing 787-8 four times per week. This service becomes Royal Jordanian’s seventh North American destination and is notable as Dallas/Fort Worth’s ninth long-haul route operated by an oneworld alliance member. In the past year, approximately 545 daily round-trip passengers traveled between Dallas and the Middle East; Dubai and Tel Aviv were more popular destinations than Amman. "Higher-yielding local Amman traffic will be important to Royal Jordanian, and not just from Dallas. It will also carry passengers who connect in Dallas to reach the Jordanian capital, such as from Los Angeles (88 daily passengers), San Francisco (66), Houston (55), New Orleans (28), and Phoenix (27). Of course, these cities already have one-stop options to Amman."

American Airlines will introduce daily nonstop service between Dallas/Fort Worth and Athens beginning May 21 with a Boeing 787-8.

Air Canada has scheduled two new European routes out of Montreal: Catania starting June 4 with three weekly Boeing 787-8 flights, and Palma de Mallorca beginning June 17 using an Airbus A321XLR four times per week. The Montreal-Palma route marks Canada's first scheduled connection to Spain's Balearic Islands; it is timed at up to eight hours and fifty-five minutes in duration. Air Canada's incoming A321XLRs are configured with 182 seats—14 in business class arranged in a herringbone pattern, and 168 in economy class—with premium seating representing only eight percent of total capacity. These configurations suit leisure-focused markets such as Palma de Mallorca.

Delta will also launch Boston-Nice on May 16 with three weekly A330-300 flights.

The article notes that these routes exclude any city pairs previously served or those added by airlines where another carrier already operates the link.

According to industry sources like Simple Flying, these additions highlight ongoing expansion by North American carriers into new transatlantic markets as travel demand continues to evolve.
