Air India announced on X that it is operating special flights between Delhi and Kathmandu to assist stranded passengers, with regular service resuming tomorrow.

According to The Kathmandu Post, Nepal’s aviation sector has faced repeated disruptions caused by severe weather and infrastructure challenges, which have left travelers stranded across multiple airports. The newspaper reported that interruptions to air transport have disproportionately affected international routes such as Kathmandu–Delhi, one of the busiest links for Nepalese passengers. Air India's decision to provide special flights highlights the role of international carriers in ensuring continuity of essential services when local aviation operations are strained.

As detailed in Air India’s official travel advisory, the airline scheduled special relief flights on September 10 and 11 between Delhi and Kathmandu. The announcement confirmed that scheduled operations would resume following these services, minimizing long-term disruption to passengers. Air India also urged travelers to check live updates via the "Flight Status" tool on its website or call its 24×7 helpline, underscoring its customer service approach during operational challenges.

According to India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Delhi–Kathmandu air corridor carried over 1.1 million passengers in 2023, making it one of the top short-haul international routes from India. The DGCA noted that this route is essential for business travelers, tourists, and Nepalese nationals commuting between the two capitals. The swift restoration of flights by Air India underscores the high demand and economic significance of this vital connection.

According to Air India's corporate profile, the airline was established in 1932 and is now the national flag carrier of India under the Tata Group's ownership. The company operates a fleet of more than 140 aircraft, flying to over 100 domestic and international destinations across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. As a member of the Star Alliance, Air India emphasizes connectivity, passenger safety, and collaboration with government authorities to maintain reliable services during both routine operations and emergencies.
