American Airlines has announced it will launch a new year-round service between Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and Vero Beach, Florida, beginning in February next year. This move will make American the third commercial airline to serve Vero Beach Regional Airport, joining Breeze Airways and JetBlue.

The daily nonstop flights are scheduled to begin on February 12. Departures from Charlotte will be at 10:00, arriving in Vero Beach at 12:10. The return flight is set to leave Vero Beach at 12:45 and arrive back in Charlotte at 14:40. The route will use Bombardier CRJ-700 aircraft.

With this addition, American becomes the only carrier directly connecting Charlotte with Vero Beach. Breeze Airways was the first to introduce scheduled service to Vero Beach in 2023, while JetBlue recently started flights from Boston and New York. American’s new route provides direct access from Vero Beach to one of the Southeast’s largest hubs.

“Our flight to Charlotte is designed to maximize nationwide connectivity, helping bring tourists to the region's relaxing atmosphere and beautiful beaches. For local residents, American's service provides the ease and convenience of flying out of their home airport to destinations across our network with just one stop,” said Jordan Pack, Director of Domestic Network Planning at American Airlines.

The launch comes as part of a broader expansion from Charlotte by American Airlines. In addition to the new Florida route, several other seasonal and event-driven services are planned for later this year and into next spring. These include special flights between Charlotte and Albuquerque International Sunport Airport for travelers attending the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in October; a weekly transcontinental link between Charlotte and Palm Springs International Airport starting December 20; as well as new winter routes from Charlotte to Aspen and Vail Eagle County Regional Airport in Colorado aimed at ski travelers.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport remains central within American Airlines’ network following its merger with US Airways in 2013. Today, American operates about 90% of all departures from CLT—nearly 600,000 flights were handled last year—and continues expanding both domestic and international offerings from this hub. According to aviation analytics firm Cirium, approximately 231,350 flights are planned by American out of Charlotte this year alone.

On the domestic front, frequent departures connect CLT with major cities such as Dallas/Fort Worth, New York LaGuardia, Orlando, Raleigh-Durham, Charlottesville, Miami, Chicago, and Philadelphia. Internationally, routes include Toronto, Cancun, London Heathrow, Punta Cana, Montego Bay, Montreal—and most recently Athens.

American Airlines’ continued growth at its second-largest hub reflects its commitment since being founded in 1926 as a full-service carrier operating major hubs across several U.S. airports including Chicago O'Hare International Airport; Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport; Los Angeles International Airport; Miami International Airport; New York JFK Airport; LaGuardia Airport; Philadelphia International Airport; Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport—as well as its significant presence in Charlotte.
