American Airlines is increasing its use of Boeing 777 aircraft on domestic routes in the United States for the fourth quarter of 2025. The airline is scheduled to operate 41.2% more widebody flights, offering nearly 40% additional domestic capacity compared to the same period last year, according to data from Cirium.

The carrier will significantly boost its deployment of the Boeing 777-200ER, with a planned 1,061 flights during Q4 2025, up from 581 in Q4 2024. This represents an increase of over 80% year-on-year. One notable change is on the Los Angeles–New York JFK route, where American Airlines will reintroduce widebody service starting October 5 after a four-and-a-half-year gap. The route will initially see one daily flight with a Boeing 777-200ER and increase to twice daily from November before returning to once daily in mid-December. In December, about 15 flights will also be operated by Boeing 787-8s.

Other routes seeing increased use of the Boeing 777 include Dallas/Fort Worth–Maui, which will have more than triple the number of flights compared to last year (93 flights in Q4 versus just 27 previously). However, some city pairs such as Charlotte–Miami and Dallas/Fort Worth–Honolulu are scheduled for fewer Boeing 777 services this quarter.

According to aeroLOPA, American’s Boeing 777-200ERs come in two configurations: one features Concept D business class seats while another uses Collins Aerospace Super Diamond seats; both offer premium economy and economy cabins.

American Airlines’ larger Boeing 777-300ER jets are set for limited but strategic domestic deployments in Q4. These aircraft are mainly scheduled on high-density routes like Dallas/Fort Worth–Miami and Los Angeles–Miami. In total, there are plans for about 155 domestic flights using this model during the quarter. On these routes, American typically uses its configuration with eight first class suites—allowing passengers access to international first class products within the US—alongside business class, premium economy, and economy seating.

Beyond its expanded use of the Boeing 777 models domestically, American continues operating its fleet of Dreamliners (Boeing 787-8s and -9s) on several U.S. routes including Dallas/Fort Worth–Honolulu and Miami–Philadelphia among others.

As reported by ch-aviation data providers, American’s current widebody fleet consists of:

-47 Boeing 777-200ERs

-20 Boeing 777-300ERs

-37 Boeing 787-8s

-40 Boeing 787-9s

The airline expects delivery of an additional twenty-two Boeing 787-9 aircraft in coming years to further support both domestic and international operations.
