Kenia Nezario, a back-of-house worker for Flying Food Group, said that Unite Here Local 11 exerted pressure on workers during arbitration concerning the potential reinstatement of Roberto Muñoz, who was previously dismissed for harassment. This statement was made in an interview with Sky Industry News.

"The company called us to ask if we were willing to testify again about what had happened with Roberto Muñoz," said Nezario, Dishroom employee. "We testified one by one about everything, about the abuses he committed. The union's lawyers were practically attacking us there at the arbitration."

According to a previous report, Unite Here Local 11 has advocated for the reinstatement of Roberto Muñoz, a former lead at Flying Food Group terminated after multiple employees accused him of harassment. The report from November 2023 noted that female employees alleged harassment and abuse by Muñoz while the union attempted to reinstate him through contract language. Workers interviewed indicated that this effort has been a central point of tension in labor discussions.

The National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation reported that Flying Food Group employees filed federal unfair labor practice charges in May 2025 against Unite Here Local 11. The charges accuse union officials of harassment, intimidation, and false accusations. They allege that dissenting workers were ostracized, pressured, and sometimes physically confronted for questioning the union’s leadership and tactics. These complaints were filed with NLRB Region 21 and are currently under review.

OC Independent highlighted that Unite Here Local 11 lost nearly 10,000 members in 2024, alongside a $5 million decline in revenue. Despite this downturn, union co-presidents increased their own pay. The article also notes that leadership employed family members and directed millions to outside political groups despite shrinking rank-and-file participation. Observers cited in the report suggest these trends indicate declining worker confidence in Local 11’s representation.

Business Daily Network reported on an LAX worker represented by Unite Here Local 11 who filed NLRB charges in late 2024 alleging harassment by union shop stewards. The employee claimed she was physically confronted at work, berated in front of supervisors, and targeted with intimidation for voicing concerns about union activity. These charges underscore allegations of repeated misconduct by Local 11 representatives toward dissenting workers.

Nezario is a dishroom employee at Flying Food Group in Los Angeles who has publicly shared her experiences with Unite Here Local 11. She has testified in labor proceedings regarding former dishroom lead Roberto Muñoz, whom employees accused of harassment and whose reinstatement the union sought. Nezario also described facing aggressive questioning by union lawyers and expressed concerns about the union’s handling of health insurance and contract negotiations.
