Mr. Mesfin Tasew Group Chief Executive Officer | Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines Group, in collaboration with the Africa Development Bank (AfDB), Dar Al-Handasah Consultants (DAR), and KPMG, hosted a two-day project showcase for the Bishoftu Airport at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel. The event began on September 16, 2025, and was attended by Ethiopia’s Finance Minister Ahmed Shide, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew, executives from the airline, as well as representatives from financing institutions, contractors, suppliers, investors, and other stakeholders.

The purpose of the showcase was to outline the structure of the Bishoftu Airport project. Organizers presented details about its financing strategy and risk allocation framework. The event targeted a wide range of participants including engineering and construction firms, development finance institutions, multilateral and bilateral banks, commercial banks, export credit agencies, and other potential partners.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said: “The Bishoftu mega international airport, Africa’s transformative project, calls for the collaboration of various stakeholders. Ethiopian has already partnered with several institutions for the initial works and will continue to further expand its collaboration with various other stakeholders. This project showcase paves the way for new partnerships, allowing deep insight into the project and its significance in the African aviation landscape and beyond.”

More than 40 institutions were represented at the event by both local and international participants. Organizers expect that this gathering will help align expectations among all parties regarding timelines and structuring considerations ahead of launching formal syndication.

Ethiopian Airlines operates flights to over 160 destinations across five continents. The airline emphasizes passenger comfort and environmental sustainability through its use of modern aircraft such as Boeing 737s, 777s, 787s; Airbus A350-900s and A350-1000s; as well as De Havilland Q400s.
