With Memorial Day weekend approaching, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is preparing for an increase in passenger and vehicle traffic. The airport has issued several recommendations to help travelers navigate the busy period and ensure a smoother travel experience.

Passengers are advised to arrive at least two hours before their domestic flight departure time, or three hours for international flights. This recommendation is due to LAX's status as one of the busiest origin and destination airports globally, which can result in longer wait times for check-in, security screening, and reaching boarding gates.

Parking demand at LAX is expected to be high during the holiday weekend. Travelers are encouraged to reserve parking in advance through parking.flylax.com, where they may find discounted rates compared to drive-up prices depending on availability.

Before heading to the airport, passengers should check their flight status and consider using online check-in options if available. For those picking up arriving travelers, it is recommended to verify both the arrival time and terminal. Real-time updates on traffic and parking are provided via the automated @FlyLAXstats X feed.

Curbside pickup and drop-off remain available on both departures and arrivals levels. Parking structures offer 15 minutes of free parking. Additionally, two cell phone waiting lots located at 96th Street & Alverstone Avenue and 96th Street & Vicksburg Avenue allow drivers to wait until passengers are ready for pickup, helping reduce congestion around terminals.

Travelers should also be aware of new identification requirements at security checkpoints. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) now enforces Real ID compliance; acceptable identification must be presented or delays may occur. More information about these requirements is available from TSA resources.

Those traveling to or transiting through the United Kingdom should note that passport holders from visa-exempt countries—including U.S. citizens—may need an electronic travel authorization (ETA) before entry or transit.

To expedite security screening, LAX recommends enrolling in trusted traveler programs such as TSA PreCheck or U.S. Customs & Border Protection’s Global Entry program.

Inside the terminals, all areas are connected post-security so ticketed passengers can access concessions throughout the airport regardless of their assigned terminal. Mobile food orders placed through LAXOrderNow receive a 20% discount until May 27 with promo code MDW25.

Business-leisure travelers will find modernized facilities including workspaces with power outlets and free Wi-Fi in most terminals.

For relaxation during travel, amenities include Gameway arcades in Terminals 3 and 6 offering classic and modern games; art installations by local artists throughout the airport; therapy dogs from the PUPS Program providing comfort in gate areas; and Kawai pianos available for passenger use in Terminal B near gate 201A and Terminal 7 beyond TSA screening.

Travelers can access additional tools such as real-time flight updates, parking reservations, dining options, lost-and-found services, virtual assistance via AskLAX, a helpline number, and a construction hotline through LAX’s main website.
