Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is preparing for a significant increase in passenger and vehicle traffic during the Fourth of July holiday period, which is expected to last through July 13. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) projects that more than 18.5 million travelers will pass through airports nationwide between July 1 and July 7, with Sunday, July 6 anticipated as the busiest day at both national and local levels.

LAX expects over 1.8 million passengers from June 30 to July 7, with nearly 247,000 on July 6 alone. According to Doug Webster, Chief Operations and Maintenance Officer at Los Angeles World Airports, "With The Fourth of July right around the corner, LAX is expecting one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Domestic travel to other hub cities remains strong, while internationally, top destinations include Vancouver, London and Mexico. Our team is fully prepared to ensure passengers have a smooth and safe journey as they head out to celebrate with family and friends.”

To help travelers manage the expected crowds and reduce stress, LAX has provided several recommendations:

Passengers are advised to arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international departures due to high volumes. Parking demand will be elevated; guests can reserve parking in advance online for discounted rates using promo code USA25 for stays between June 30 and July 6.

The recently opened LAX/Metro Transit Center Station now connects directly via Metro's C and K lines. A free shuttle service links this station with all airport terminals.

Travelers are encouraged to check flight status before arriving at the airport or picking up passengers. Real-time traffic updates are available through @FlyLAXstats on X (formerly Twitter). For those waiting for arrivals, two cell phone waiting lots provide an option to reduce congestion near terminal curbs.

Security screening can be expedited by enrolling in TSA PreCheck or Global Entry programs. Passengers should follow TSA’s liquids rule and comply with firearm transport regulations by ensuring firearms are unloaded, locked in hard-sided containers, and checked in as baggage only.

Since full enforcement of REAL ID began on May 7, nearly all travelers have presented compliant identification at security checkpoints.

New concession options include a recently opened 7-Eleven in Terminal 1’s arrivals level. Mobile orders placed through LAXshopdine.com receive a discount from June 27-July 7 using promotional code LAXSUMMER25. Spending $75 or more at participating retailers earns guests LAX-themed flip flops while supplies last.

For business-leisure travelers needing workspace or power outlets while waiting for flights, most terminals offer suitable facilities along with free Wi-Fi access.

Unique amenities aimed at improving passenger experience include Gameway arcades in Terminals 3 and 6; rotating art installations across terminals; therapy dogs under the PUPs Program providing comfort throughout departure areas; and public pianos available for guest use in Tom Bradley International Terminal and Terminal 7.

Arriving international passengers are reminded not to bring prohibited agricultural items into California due to pest risks. All plants or produce must be declared for inspection by U.S. Customs officials.

LAX has introduced Enhanced Passenger Processing technology in Tom Bradley International Terminal—the first large-scale deployment of its kind nationally—which uses touchless biometric verification for faster entry processing. Since implementation at select airports, this system has reduced wait times for U.S citizens by about a quarter and brought maximum wait times for non-U.S citizens down from over fifty minutes to below thirty-five minutes.
