Postal workers from around the world are calling for greater protection as they continue their work in areas affected by conflict. At the UNI Post & Logistics World Conference held in Bangkok on September 23, approximately 150 trade union leaders representing millions of postal employees approved a resolution focused on safety during times of crisis.
Dave Ward, President of UNI Post & Logistics World and General Secretary of the Communication Workers Union in the UK, introduced the resolution. He stated: “UNI is an organization based on solidarity and cooperation. We say out loud that postal workers are not targets. We will support our brothers and sisters in need.”
The resolution highlights the essential role of postal services, emphasizing their connection to fundamental rights such as freedom of expression and access to information. Postal workers are responsible for delivering letters, pensions, medicines, aid parcels, and maintaining vital human contact—services described as essential for survival.
