Lufthansa has unveiled a special livery for its incoming Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to mark the airline's upcoming 100th anniversary in 2026. The German flag carrier, which is also a founding member of Star Alliance, shared images and video footage of the centenary paint scheme on aircraft D-ABPU earlier today.

The design features a predominantly dark blue fuselage with a large white crane motif that extends onto the wings. According to Lufthansa, this crane symbol was "designed as a trademark by graphic designer and architect Otto Firle in 1918." Lufthansa CEO Jens Ritter commented: "Our Lufthansa crane stands for safety, pioneering spirit, premium quality, but also for freedom and reliability. This has been the case for the past 100 years and will continue to be so in the future. We are proud of our tradition and our values, and we look forward to continuing our great history."

The livery includes additional elements such as the number 100 on the bottom and left side of the aircraft, as well as the years 1926 and 2026 on its right side. The jet is currently having finishing touches applied at Boeing’s Charleston factory in South Carolina. It is scheduled for delivery to Lufthansa’s Frankfurt Airport hub in November before entering service in December.

Lufthansa highlighted that its crane logo has become an unmistakable distinguishing feature worldwide over several decades. The airline stated that the new livery "combines movement and elegance" while reflecting both tradition and innovation.

The newly painted Dreamliner will also include Lufthansa's next-generation 'Allegris' interior. Although there have been some challenges with certification delays affecting seat availability on certain flights, this development represents progress for the airline.

This announcement follows another centenary-related initiative revealed by Lufthansa earlier this week. The company introduced Project FOX (Future Onboard Experience), through which it plans to invest more than €70 million ($82.26 million) to enhance passenger experience on long-haul routes beginning next spring. Planned upgrades include allowing business class passengers to choose when they receive their second meal service and offering economy class travelers a third main meal option along with improved seats, tableware, and textiles set for deployment in 2026.
