Delta Air Lines has announced it will launch a new nonstop route from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Porto Airport (OPO) in Portugal starting May 21, 2026. This will be the airline’s first daily service between these two cities and is part of Delta’s wider expansion across the Atlantic for the summer 2026 season.

The new JFK-Porto flight builds on Delta’s current Portuguese network, which already includes nonstop flights from JFK to Lisbon. The route covers approximately 2,887 nautical miles (5,347 kilometers) and will be operated with Boeing 767-300ER aircraft featuring a four-class cabin: 26 business class seats, 18 premium economy seats, 21 economy plus seats, and 151 economy class seats.

Delta will be the only airline offering direct nonstop flights between JFK and Porto. However, TAP Air Portugal and United Airlines both provide direct services to Porto from Newark International Airport (EWR).

Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta Air Lines, commented on the expansion: “Delta’s new nonstop service from JFK to Porto is part of seven new European routes launching next summer, giving customers even more opportunities to experience Europe and enjoy our award-winning service and premium onboard experience. Whether discovering Portugal or traveling to our other new destinations such as Sardinia and Malta, these additions expand choice for our customers and reinforce JFK’s role as a leading global gateway.”

In addition to the Porto service, Delta plans several other transatlantic changes for summer 2026. The airline will add nonstop flights from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Madrid (MAD), Spain, and Nice (NCE), France; increase frequencies to Barcelona (BCN), Spain, and Milan (MXP), Italy; introduce new nonstop routes from Seattle (SEA) to Barcelona and Rome (FCO); offer new island destinations with flights from JFK to Malta (MLA) and Sardinia (CAG); and boost Detroit-Dublin connectivity with three extra weekly flights.

At the same time as these additions, Delta is removing some European destinations from its schedule. The carrier will end service between JFK and Geneva after October 19, 2025. The decision was first reported by Ishrion Aviation and later confirmed by Delta Air Lines through its website and booking systems. Other routes being discontinued include New York-JFK to London Gatwick Airport after September 7, 2025, and New York-JFK to Brussels after January 5, 2026. Service between Atlanta (ATL) and Brussels will continue.
