Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) has begun operations at a new automated sorting facility located in the cargo area of Tallinn Airport, Estonia. The facility integrates both ground and air services and is designed to help Estonian customers access global markets through an efficient logistics network.

This marks the first cargo terminal on the southern side of Tallinn Airport’s business complex. The facility uses advanced sorting systems that can process thousands of shipments daily. It is directly connected to the FedEx global air network, enabling Estonian businesses to reach international destinations, including Poland, and supporting economic development in Estonia.

Mariusz Mik, vice president of ground operations for Nordics and Eastern Europe at FedEx Europe, commented on the investment: “Our latest investment strengthens Estonia’s position in global trade. By focusing on speed and efficiency, FedEx is not only supporting the country’s economy, like the growing e-commerce sector, but also empowering local entrepreneurs to reach customers in over 220 markets worldwide. This is how we connect Estonia’s culture of innovation with the globe.”

Tõnu Väät, CEO of the Estonian E-Commerce Association, welcomed FedEx's expansion: “E-commerce in Estonia grows by around 20% every year, already reaching an annual turnover of 5.2 billion euros. There is certainly still room for growth in Estonian exports, especially in the field of e-commerce. One global obstacle is undoubtedly the high cost of logistics – volumes are small, and shipping is expensive.” He added: “Any investment in Estonia by an international logistics partner — whether in sorting capacity, warehouse space, or transportation modes — definitely lays a foundation for export growth. That’s why we welcome the opening of the new FedEx logistics center in Tallinn and hope that, in light of this recent development, we’ll also be able to offer Estonian e-merchants more competitive prices that support growth.”

The new warehouse triples previous space allocations and can handle up to 3,000 parcels per hour using multi-sided scanning technology for accurate processing. Its direct airport access allows daily FedEx flights linking Tallinn with Paris Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle—FedEx's largest European hub—and road connections extend service into Poland via Warsaw.

Office space totaling 1,200 square meters supports operational needs for staff members. The building incorporates sustainable features such as rooftop solar panels for electricity generation, motion-sensor lighting controls throughout offices and warehouses, electric vehicle charging stations onsite, and geothermal energy use via heat pumps for heating and cooling.

FedEx has operated in Estonia since 1994 and currently serves over 220 countries and territories worldwide. Its European Road network connects customers across 45 countries under one provider interface.
