Delta Air Lines announced plans to launch nonstop flights between New York City and Porto, Portugal, beginning in May 2026. The new route will depart from Delta's hub at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), marking the airline's first service from JFK to Porto.

Paul Baldoni, Delta's senior vice president of network planning, stated, "Whether discovering Portugal or traveling to our other new destinations such as Sardinia and Malta, these additions expand choice for our customers and reinforce JFK's role as a leading global gateway."

The introduction of this route comes amid growing interest in travel to Portugal beyond Lisbon. According to aviation analytics firm Cirium, the number of flights between the U.S. and Porto Airport has increased by 76% compared to two years ago. United Airlines currently operates flights from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Porto, while Tap Air Portugal offers nonstop service from both EWR and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

Delta's Porto service will begin on May 21, 2026. The airline will use its Boeing 767-300 aircraft with the "76K" configuration for the route. This plane features 26 lie-flat Delta One suites, 18 Delta Premium Select recliners, 21 Comfort Plus seats with extra legroom, and 151 main cabin seats.

With this addition, Delta will have seven new European routes scheduled for summer 2026. Besides the new Porto flight and previously announced routes to Sardinia and Malta—which were chosen through a customer vote—the airline is adding service from Boston to Madrid and Nice as well as flights from Seattle to Rome and Barcelona.

Porto is located nearly 200 miles north of Lisbon at the mouth of the Douro River. Travelers visiting Porto have access to a range of hotel options bookable with points programs such as Hilton Honors, Marriott Bonvoy—including the Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel opened in 2023—and Mr. & Mrs. Smith properties now part of World of Hyatt.
