A new memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed on September 25, 2025, between the National Union of Bank Employees – Insurance and Finance Organizations (NUBE-IFO) and the Korean Financial Industry Foundation (KFIF). This marks the fourth cycle of the Payatas Training and Livelihood Center (PTLC) union social responsibility project in the Philippines. The signing ceremony took place at KFIF’s office in Seoul, with officials from KFIF, NUBE-IFO, and the Korea Finance Industry Union (KFIU) present.

The renewed partnership aims to further efforts toward sustainability and economic empowerment for residents of Payatas. According to NUBE-IFO, this renewal reflects ongoing trust in the program’s mission. The fourth cycle will focus on creating stable sources of income for local residents to help reduce dependence on scavenging. The initiative also continues its emphasis on education and skills development by providing practical training that can lead to employment opportunities. In addition, by supporting family incomes through lawful work, the project seeks to address poverty at its roots and help reduce child labor.

The event also marked the first official visit by NUBE-IFO to KFIU. During this visit, both unions participated in an Educational Exchange Program designed to share best practices related to workforce development, financial literacy, and social protection programs.

UNI Asia & Pacific Regional Secretary Rajendra Acharya commended these developments.

The PTLC project began as a collaboration between UNI Asia & Pacific Regional Organization (UNI Apro) and KFIF. Their initial MOA was signed on August 24, 2022. This agreement enabled KFIF to work with UNI Apro in supporting NUBE-IFO’s establishment of a vocational training center for the Payatas community in the Philippines. The center officially opened on November 22, 2022, and has since expanded its programming. In February 2025, a delegation from KFIF, KFIU, and the Federation of Korean Trade Unions visited following a third-cycle MOA renewal in 2024.
