Cathay Pacific has announced on X that it will commence daily flights between Hong Kong and Changsha on November 4, 2025. This development marks the airline's 24th destination in Mainland China.

According to Cathay Pacific, Changsha, the capital of Hunan province, has evolved into a central hub for manufacturing, tech startups, and entertainment. The city is supported by a significant university population and tourist attractions such as Yuelu Mountain and Orange Isle. A nonstop connection through Hong Kong’s global hub provides exporters and inbound visitors with a one-stop network across Asia, Oceania, and the Americas while offering leisure travelers access to Hunan’s cuisine and heritage. The route also expands options for firms with supply chains in the Yangtze River economic belt and aligns with Hong Kong’s role as a connector for regional commerce and investment.

Starting November 4, 2025, Cathay Pacific will operate daily non-stop flights between Hong Kong and Changsha. With this addition, Changsha becomes the fifth Mainland destination added by the Cathay Group in 2025, bringing its overall Mainland network to 24 points served via Cathay Pacific and HK Express. The move is intended to increase customer choice and connectivity over Hong Kong, strengthening links for both travelers and businesses. These concrete schedule and network figures highlight that the airline is expanding measured capacity into inland China during the year-end timetable change.

Market fundamentals support this viability: Changsha Huanghua International Airport handled a record 27.25 million passenger trips in 2023, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. This throughput places CSX among China’s busier inland gateways and suggests steady domestic and regional demand that a daily Hong Kong service can tap into, including connections to long-haul routes. Airports of this scale typically sustain both business travel and visits from friends or relatives (VFR), improving load factors on new international links while providing shippers and travelers with reliable scheduling options year-round.

Cathay Pacific Airways Limited is the flag carrier of Hong Kong, founded in 1946 and headquartered at Cathay City near Hong Kong International Airport. As a founding member of the Oneworld alliance, it operates passenger and cargo services with subsidiaries including HK Express and Air Hong Kong. The group focuses on connecting Asia with long-haul markets via Hong Kong, emphasizing reliability and premium service. Governance and ownership are anchored by Swire Pacific, with strategic ties to Air China and Qatar Airways—positions that support network breadth and competitive resilience in the region.
