European low-cost airline Norwegian Air Shuttle will reopen its base at Billund Airport in Denmark, launching ten new European routes. This expansion will increase Norwegian’s direct connections from Billund from four to 14 destinations.

The move comes after Ryanair decided to close its base at Billund, citing a new landing charge imposed by the Danish government. Norwegian previously operated a base at Billund in 2019 but withdrew during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Billund is known for being close to LEGOLAND and other family attractions, making it a popular destination for tourists. The new year-round non-stop flights from Billund will begin in late March and early April next year. Destinations include Barcelona (starting April 1), Milan Bergamo (April 2), Edinburgh (April 3), Gran Canaria (March 30), and Rome–Fiumicino (April 3). These will add to Norwegian’s existing flights to Alicante, London Gatwick, Malaga, and Oslo Gardermoen.

Billund Airport is one of Denmark’s busiest air cargo hubs and a key charter destination. Located less than two miles from downtown Billund and LEGOLAND, the airport provides quick access for travelers visiting the area.

Norwegian will also introduce several seasonal summer routes in 2026. New links include Naples and Porto starting in April; Chania beginning May 2; Malta on June 3; and Nice-Côte d'Azur on June 12. Most of these routes target leisure travelers, giving Norwegian a near-monopoly on many of them out of Billund. However, major airlines continue to operate out of Copenhagen Airport, about three hours away.

Other airlines are also expanding services at Billund over the coming year. Austrian Airlines will launch a seasonal service to Innsbruck starting December 20. Volotea plans direct seasonal flights to Lyon from January 10. Wizz Air will add routes to Chisinau, Cluj Napoca, and Katowice by October’s end while maintaining current services to Bucharest International Airport, Gdansk, Iasi, and Vilnius. Next March brings a new route between Billund and Tirana.

Meanwhile, two destinations—Munich served by Lufthansa and Barcelona-El Prat served by Vueling—will be removed from Billund’s schedule after October 25 as both airlines end their direct services.
