Air Tahiti Nui has announced it will suspend its nonstop flights between Papeete, French Polynesia, and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport starting February 1, 2026. The airline currently operates this route twice a week using Boeing 787 aircraft.

In a statement provided to Simple Flying, Air Tahiti Nui said customers with reservations for travel after January 31 will be affected by the change. Passengers who have already booked tickets or are planning to travel between Papeete and Seattle can now be rerouted through Los Angeles. The airline offers up to 11 weekly frequencies on this alternative route through a combination of codeshare and interline agreements.

Air Tahiti Nui acknowledged the impact of the suspension on travelers' plans and expressed gratitude for their understanding and continued loyalty. "The carrier would like to thank these types of customers for their understanding and continued loyalty."

Affected passengers have several options. They can rebook at no extra cost on flights via Los Angeles, as close as possible to their original travel dates, subject to availability in the same class of service. Alternatively, customers may request a full refund at the original ticket price.

The airline also advised that customer service resources are limited. Passengers scheduled to fly between February 1 and May 30, 2026, should contact customer service in the coming week. Those with later departures are asked to wait for future time slots.

This decision reflects Air Tahiti Nui's efforts to adjust its network based on demand and operating economics. The airline noted that Seattle did not generate enough passenger traffic to sustain profitable operations on the route.

"At the end of the day, the airline has shown interest in eliminating routes that are not performing as projected," according to Air Tahiti Nui’s statement seen by Simple Flying.

As one of the few airlines serving French Polynesia with long-haul flights, Air Tahiti Nui faces unique challenges in matching supply with demand across its limited network.
