Cathay has announced changes to its membership programme, aiming to make the experience smoother and simpler for members. The new features will apply to Green, Silver, Gold, and Diamond members, with a focus on easier status progression and more flexible benefits. These updates are set to take effect from January 1, 2027, with a transition period beginning January 1, 2026.

Under the revised programme, Status Points will not reset to zero after an upgrade. This change allows members to potentially achieve multiple status upgrades within one year, as all earned Status Points will count toward the next milestone. The membership cycle will also be standardized across all members, running from January 1 to December 31 each year. This replaces the previous individual rolling system and aims to provide clarity for travel planning.

Gold members or above will be able to roll over excess Status Points into the following year. They can carry over up to half of the points required for their current status. This gives them an advantage in maintaining or reaching higher status levels.

A new elite tier called Diamond Exec is being introduced for those who earn at least 2,400 Status Points in a single year. Members at this level will receive a dedicated Relationship Manager and additional personalized privileges.

Members who have held any Diamond status for at least five cumulative years can now earn a complimentary Diamond membership year for every 6,000 Status Points accumulated during their lifetime membership. There is no expiration date or limit on how many complimentary years can be earned.

Vivian Lo, Director Customer Lifestyle at Cathay, said: “We are evolving the Cathay membership programme with our current and future members in mind, offering them a smoother, simpler and better membership experience. By simplifying the path to higher status and providing greater flexibility for members in new ways, members can look forward to progressing with greater ease and enjoying a more rewarding journey that truly elevates their lives.”
