Tim Clark, President of Emirates | Emirates Airlines

Emirates has marked 25 years of operating flights between Dubai and Entebbe, Uganda. To commemorate the milestone, the airline operated a special flight using its four-class refurbished Boeing 777-300ER, a model being gradually introduced on more routes as part of Emirates’ cabin upgrade program.

Since the start of its service in 2000, Emirates has transported over 2.8 million passengers on nearly 16,000 flights between Dubai and Entebbe. The route initially launched with three weekly flights using an Airbus A330-200 via Nairobi, later changing to a stop in Addis Ababa before switching to direct flights in 2007. In 2015, the airline increased capacity by deploying the Boeing 777-200LR, and it now operates daily flights with the larger Boeing 777-300ER.

Emirates’ presence in Uganda is supported by a code-share arrangement with flydubai, allowing customers to book flydubai’s 10 weekly flights between Dubai and Entebbe via the Emirates website. In addition to Emirates’ daily flights, Uganda Airlines operates three weekly flights on the route.

The airline has invested in Uganda through community projects. In September 2024, Emirates’ Dubai 7s for Good CSR program raised nearly $170,000 for building community infrastructure, including sports facilities and solar-powered water stations at a Ugandan school.

Since January 2025, Emirates has seen a 16% increase in passenger numbers on the route, with many travelers connecting from the United States, China, India, the United Kingdom, Thailand, and the Middle East.

Mohamed Taher, Emirates’ Country Manager for Uganda, said: "Uganda is not only a key market on our network, but also one of our most loved destinations in Africa. Over the last 25 years, we have built strong and prosperous ties with customers, partners and stakeholders by investing in our operations to provide a best-in-class service."

The airline has confirmed that as its cabin refurbishment program continues, Uganda will also benefit from Emirates’ latest in-flight amenities.

Currently, three airlines operate a total of 20 weekly flights between Dubai and Entebbe. Emirates offers daily flights with its Boeing 777-300ERs, flydubai operates daily flights and three additional weekly flights with its Boeing 737 fleet, and Uganda Airlines provides three weekly services, typically using Airbus A330-800s, though on occasion an Airbus A320 is used.
