FedEx has supported an environmental awareness initiative for children living in care facilities in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The program, organized by the nonprofit Mirai no Mori, included a four-kilometer hike on Mount Mitake in Ome City, Tokyo. Thirteen FedEx employees volunteered as mentors, joining 28 children for the event. The volunteers shared practical knowledge about environmental protection and helped guide the children through outdoor activities.
According to Kei Kubota, Managing Director of FedEx in Japan, "At FedEx, we believe that sustainability means taking responsibility for the future of our environment. Our commitment to sustainability can foster meaningful connections between the next generation and nature, promoting environmental awareness that contributes to a sustainable future. We are honored to participate as team members in this important community environmental project."
Mirai no Mori provides children in care with outdoor experiences such as trekking, forestry work, and rafting. These programs aim to develop essential life skills such as decision-making, problem-solving, self-awareness, self-management, interpersonal relationships, and communication, which are considered important for children after they leave care facilities at age 18.
