Business credit cards can provide significant value for business owners, especially when rewards are redeemed strategically. Many entrepreneurs are interested in maximizing the points and miles they earn through their business spending but often seek straightforward advice on how to get the best value from these rewards.

Three major programs—Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, and Capital One miles—offer different ways for business owners to use their accumulated points or miles.

For Chase Ultimate Rewards, the new Points Boost feature is changing how users redeem points through the Chase Travel portal. The value received depends on when an account was opened. Chase's strength lies in its airline transfer partners such as United Airlines MileagePlus, British Airways Club, and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer. This allows cardholders to confirm award seat availability before transferring points. Tools like Points Path and TPG’s monthly valuations can help determine optimal redemption options.

Chase also has strong hotel transfer partners including World of Hyatt, Marriott Bonvoy, and IHG One Rewards. World of Hyatt is noted for delivering high cents-per-point value. The Edit by Chase Travel offers curated hotel stays that sometimes yield extra value. Comparing cash prices with point redemptions is recommended, particularly with Hyatt.

American Express Membership Rewards stands out for U.S.-based travelers due to its partnership with Delta Air Lines SkyMiles. For international travel, Air Canada Aeroplan and other partners provide valuable options. Holders of the Business Platinum Card from American Express receive a 35% points bonus when booking flights through Amex Travel—a benefit that helps balance out the card’s annual fee.

Amex points also transfer to Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy. Transfer bonuses offered periodically can increase redemption value, and both hotel programs offer a fifth night free on award stays. However, depending on rates at the time of booking, redeeming Amex points for airfare may provide better overall value than using them for hotels.

Capital One miles prioritize simplicity; many cards earn 2 miles per dollar spent on all purchases while certain premium cards offer higher rates for travel booked via Capital One’s portal. Miles can be redeemed as statement credits to offset flight charges directly—a convenient option since Capital One does not have a major U.S.-based airline among its transfer partners.

For hotels, Capital One provides flexibility by allowing users to earn up to 10 miles per dollar spent at hotels or vacation rentals (depending on the card) and then redeem those miles as statement credits for reimbursement—making it attractive for those who prefer independent or boutique accommodations over large chains.

Overall, Chase and Amex are preferred by many business travelers due to their domestic airline partnerships and flexible policies regarding awards. Capital One appeals to those seeking ease of use in earning and redeeming rewards.

By understanding each program’s strengths—and applying careful planning—business owners can ensure their credit card spending delivers meaningful returns through travel rewards.
