The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) and Midway Partnership have announced the opening of two new retail stores, Chicago Sports and Johnston & Murphy, at Midway International Airport. The new additions are part of the airport’s ongoing modernization and efforts to enhance the range of concessions available to travelers.

Commissioner Michael McMurray of the Chicago Department of Aviation said, “We know travelers come through our airports for countless reasons, and we’re committed to offering retail options that meet all of their needs — whether it’s finding a last-minute gift for a loved one or picking up a new blazer for a meeting right after landing. The addition of Chicago Sports and Johnston & Murphy strengthens our retail mix and keeps Chicago’s airports among the best in the world for passenger experience.”

Chicago Sports offers officially licensed merchandise representing the city’s major sports teams, including the Cubs, White Sox, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks. The store provides a range of apparel such as hats, jerseys, hoodies, and T-shirts.

Shawnta Young, General Manager of Midway Partnership, stated, “We’re thrilled to welcome these exciting new retail concepts to Midway’s ever-growing lineup of shops, restaurants, and amenities. These additions reflect our ongoing commitment to making Midway a destination that celebrates Chicago’s energy, creativity and businesses.  We are grateful to our partners at the CDA, Vantage Group, SSP America, and Hudson for collaborating to offer a world-class, Chicago-inspired experience to guests at Midway.”

Johnston & Murphy, an American brand established in 1850 and part of Genesco Inc., offers footwear and clothing for men and women. Connie Cartmill, Johnston & Murphy’s VP of stores, said, “We are excited to open our first location in Midway International Airport. Midway Partnership’s focus on enhancing passenger experiences and reimagining retail spaces is changing the way people think of airport travel.  We believe that our diversified product assortment for men and women and unparalleled customer experience makes J&M a go-to for Midway’s frequent travelers.”

The new shops are located in Concourse B, with Chicago Sports open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, and Johnston & Murphy operating from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. The openings are part of an ongoing project led by Midway Partnership, which has invested over $75 million to expand dining and shopping options at the airport. The initiative aims to increase the total concessions area from 40,000 to 70,000 square feet, double the number of concessions jobs at the airport from 700 to 1,400, and improve the experience for the 22 million passengers who use Midway annually. More information about these developments can be found at www.midwaypartnership.com.

The CDA manages both O'Hare and Midway International Airports, which together serve over 100 million passengers each year and contribute about $70 billion in economic activity to the region. The department is self-supporting and does not use local or state tax dollars for its operations or capital improvements.
