Alaska Airlines is expanding its operations with the Boeing 737 MAX 9, focusing on long nonstop routes for the 2025 schedule. The airline, based in Seattle, has grown through acquisitions of Virgin America and Hawaiian Airlines, strengthening its presence on the US West Coast. Its mainline fleet is currently composed of Boeing 737 aircraft, but it will soon add Boeing 787s from the Hawaiian Airlines merger to support long-haul ambitions to destinations such as Tokyo, Seoul, and future European cities.

According to ch-aviation, Alaska Airlines operates 238 Boeing 737s, including the -700, -800, -900ER, MAX 8, and MAX 9 variants. The airline has 63 MAX 10s on order, with deliveries expected from 2027, and continues to receive MAX 8s.

The Boeing 737 MAX 9 in Alaska's fleet is configured for up to 178 passengers and features two layouts: one with 16 First Class, 24 Premium, and 138 Economy seats; the other with 16 First, 30 Premium, and 132 Economy seats. The MAX 9 has a range of up to 3,300 nautical miles and a cruising speed of Mach 0.79.

For the summer of 2025, the longest MAX 9 route is the seasonal Anchorage (ANC) to Detroit (DTW) service. Operating once weekly from June 14 to August 16, the flight covers 2,985 miles and has a flight time of about six hours and twenty minutes. Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines both operate seasonal services between these cities.

The second longest MAX 9 route is between San Francisco (SFO) and Liberia (LIR), Costa Rica. This service covers 2,946 miles and operates seasonally from December through May. Alaska Airlines is the largest West Coast carrier offering flights to Latin America and began this route in December 2024. Other US airlines also serve Liberia, but Alaska Airlines offers three non-stop services to the city.

A unique route in the network was the seasonal Seattle to Nassau (NAS), Bahamas service. The flight covered 2,886 miles and operated 32 times between the two cities in the winter months. However, Alaska Airlines has suspended this and the Los Angeles to Nassau route due to financial reasons. No other airline currently offers nonstop flights from the US West Coast to Nassau.

Another significant MAX 9 route is Anchorage to Kona (KOA), Hawaii, covering 2,874 miles. This seasonal link is the only direct flight between Alaska and Kona and is complemented by other year-round and seasonal flights to Hawaii from Anchorage.

Other notable MAX 9 services in 2025 include year-round Anchorage to Chicago O'Hare (ORD), which will see 136 nonstop flights with the MAX 9. The Seattle to Belize City (BZE) route is another seasonal service covering 2,820 miles. Finally, Anchorage to Kahului (OGG), Hawaii, will have seasonal flights totaling up to 45 southbound and 42 northbound services.

Alaska Airlines continues to adjust its network and fleet as it integrates new aircraft and responds to market demand.
