In April, British Airways launched a status match offer for U.S. customers, causing significant concern among American Airlines executives. This promotion allowed participants to access American’s Flagship lounges when flying domestically.

With the impending acquisition of Scandinavian Airlines by Air France KLM and its subsequent departure from Star Alliance to join SkyTeam, a new status match opportunity has emerged. British Airways Silver and Gold members can now match their status to SAS EuroBonus Gold until August 30.

Starting September 1, SAS EuroBonus Gold will be recognized as SkyTeam Elite Plus, granting priority services from Delta Airlines. To qualify, applicants must list their SAS EuroBonus account address in one of the specified countries, excluding the U.S. Verification proof is not initially required but may be requested later. The matched status will last through March 31, 2025, with an extension available upon completing five paid SAS flights.

An intriguing aspect of this development is that Lufthansa Miles & More will match SAS EuroBonus Gold status to Lufthansa’s Senator status until September 30. This opportunity allows travelers who already have United Clubs access domestically to attain Lufthansa Senator status as well. The Lufthansa status lasts through February 28, 2025, and can be extended by another year with six qualifying paid tickets by November 30.

Other airlines also offer various status match opportunities. Turkish Airways' status has been used for years to gain access to United Clubs. Additionally, SkyTeam airlines often provide lounge access on domestic itineraries to partner elite members through similar promotions.

This current situation is notable due to the rarity of Lufthansa offering a status match. The accessibility of SAS EuroBonus status during this transitional period makes it an attractive option for frequent flyers seeking enhanced benefits.
