Latam reports increased passenger traffic amid operational challenges

LATAM reported a 10.3% increase in passenger traffic compared to last year, with 6.5 million passengers flown in June 2024. International passengers saw the largest increase, rising by 26.7% year-on-year, while domestic operations in Brazil saw a 3.1% increase despite flooding impacting operations in Porto Alegre. LATAM made a $258 million profit in Q1 2024.

LATAM has released its latest passenger figures, showing a significant increase in passenger traffic compared to last year. Across the LATAM Airlines Group, a total of 6.5 million passengers were carried in June 2024, representing a 10.3% increase on the 5.9 million passengers carried in June 2023.

By far the largest increase was in the number of international passengers, which rose from 1.0 million to 1.2 million over the same period (an increase of 26.7% year-on-year). Domestic operations in Brazil saw an increase in passenger numbers of 3.1% between June 2023 and June 2024, with domestic passenger figures across the group's other airlines rising by 11.7%.

In the first half of this year, LATAM carried more than 39 million passengers, a 15.5% increase on the same period last year. Financially speaking, the airline group is performing well too, making a $258 million profit in Q1 2024. It remains to be seen if this trend will continue when LATAM releases its Q2 financial results in August.

Prior to closure,"LATAM operated an average of" "24 flights per day to and from Porto Alegre," re-allocating capacity to other routes including São Paulo Congonhas (CGH), Brasília (BSB), and Curitiba (CWB). The airport is expected to reopen October; plans are resuming operations there.
