Dr. Brendan Nelson, President of Boeing Global, is set to provide an exclusive insight into leadership at the highest levels during a breakfast address on August 22nd. The former Australian Defence Minister, ambassador, and director of the Australian War Memorial will share his unique perspective on guiding one of the world's largest aerospace companies.

Boeing, known for its iconic aircraft such as the 747, 777, and 787 models, also manufactures Australia's F-18 fighters, C-17 transports, Wedgetail radar platforms, Chinook helicopters, Harpoon cruise missiles, and P8 Poseidon naval patrol aircraft. Internationally, Boeing produces the F-15 Eagle fighter jets, launch rockets and spacecraft for the International Space Station, commercial and military satellites, attack helicopters, KC-16 aerial tankers, missile defense systems, and autonomous drones.

Boeing's presence in Australia is its largest outside the United States with seven wholly-owned subsidiaries employing around 3,000 people across 38 locations nationwide. The company has invested over US$800 million in Australia and generates approximately US$400 million in export revenue annually.

The company's commercial backlog includes orders for 5,477 aircraft: 4,173 units of the 737 MAX series; 95 units of the 767; 493 units of the 777F and 777-9; and 716 units of the 787 series.

Dr. Nelson joined Boeing in February 2020 as president of Boeing Australia, New Zealand & South Pacific. He led government relations and directed strategies to expand Boeing's local presence while concurrently serving as chairman of both AmCham Australia and the council of the Australian War Memorial.

Before joining Boeing, Dr. Nelson served as director of the Australian War Memorial for seven years. He was previously Australia's Ambassador to Belgium from 2010 to 2012 and held various governmental roles including Minister for Education (2001-2006) and Minister for Defence (2006). During his tenure as Defence Minister when troops were deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan among other regions.

Dr. Nelson's early career saw him elected as National President of the Australian Medical Association (AMA), becoming its youngest-ever leader. He received AMA’s Gold Medal for "Distinguished Service to Medicine and Humanity" in 1995. In recognition of his public health contributions he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

He holds a Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery from Flinders University with three honorary doctorates from Flinders University (2011), Australian National University (2017), University of South Australia (2019). Other honors include Fellowships with Royal Society NSW (2017), Australian College Nursing (2021), Rotary Paul Harris Fellow (2001), Fellow Australian War Memorial(2021); honorary life member Returned Services League(2018); honorary citizen Belgian city Ieper/Ypres(2018) Commander Order Crown Belgium(2021).
