Starting today, American Airlines' Gold members and above will receive free checked bags when flying with Gol, their exclusive codeshare partner in Brazil. This new benefit extends to members of both airlines' loyalty programs, who already enjoy reciprocal mile earning and redemption privileges.

The new baggage allowance is structured as follows:

- Gold: 1 free checked bag

- Platinum Pro and higher: 3 free checked bags

Each bag may weigh up to 50 pounds. Additionally, one companion on the same reservation is entitled to a single complimentary checked bag.

Previously, American Airlines status members have benefited from extra legroom seats and priority boarding when traveling with Gol. The partnership between the two airlines allows American to offer more connections for its Brazil services and sell more local flights to Brazilian customers. Notably, two-thirds of American’s customers on South America routes are based in Brazil rather than the U.S.
