Light aircraft engine manufacturer Continental has announced a strategic partnership with sustainable aviation solutions provider APUS Zero Emission at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Germany-based APUS Zero Emission aims "to make air traffic 100% emission-free and uncompromisingly climate-neutral" and is a pioneer in hydrogen-powered and hybrid-electric flight.

The collaboration will explore sustainable piston engine technology to significantly reduce the climate impact of general aviation. By leveraging decades of experience, the partnership aims to develop innovative power plant solutions for current and future aircraft owners. New developments will focus on reducing emissions and enhancing engine efficiency during flight phases.

“At Continental, we believe the future of flying is the industry’s responsibility, and we are committed to pioneering engine advancements that enhance aircraft performance and contribute to more sustainable skies,” said David Dörner, Continental's vice president of global research and development. “This partnership highlights our commitment to not only greener but also innovative propulsion solutions as we champion continued progress with sustainable alternative fuels, unleaded fuels, and other forthcoming energy sources and technologies.”
