A South Carolina man is facing felony charges after allegedly making terroristic threats at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on September 9, 2024. The incident occurred when Jared Peeler, frustrated by the lack of direct flights from Las Vegas to South Carolina, reportedly threatened to blow up the airport and made political remarks supporting Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

The confrontation began at the Alaska Airlines ticket counter, where Peeler inquired about a direct flight to South Carolina. After being informed that no such flights were available, he allegedly became agitated, prompting an Alaska Airlines supervisor to ask him to leave. Witnesses stated that Peeler refused, escalated his behavior, and made threatening comments such as, “If I was a terrorist, I’d blow up this place,” and “Come back and shoot this [expletive] up Trump 2024.”

The severity of the statements led to the involvement of detectives from the Southern Nevada Counterterrorism Center, as the remarks were treated as a potential terror threat. Peeler, however, denied making the threatening statements during a subsequent interview with authorities. He claimed he only said, “Good thing I’m not a terrorist and I’m not trying to blow up the airport,” asserting that his words had been misinterpreted.

Peeler, who was reportedly in Las Vegas to place a sports bet, mentioned during questioning that he “comes from money” and was frustrated by the delays, adding that he disliked waiting. His situation worsened when he was unable to book a flight due to an issue with his card at the Delta counter.

Peeler now faces both misdemeanor and felony charges, including a violation of airport conduct and making threats or conveying false information concerning acts of terrorism. During a probable cause hearing on September 10, Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Rebecca Saxe ordered Peeler to stay away from the airport unless he is a ticketed passenger. Peeler was released with GPS monitoring and must regularly check in with the court.

Peeler’s next court appearance is scheduled for November 14, 2024, where he will face the terroristic threat charges. As authorities continue their investigation, this case serves as a reminder of the heightened sensitivity around security in public spaces like airports.
