Emirates recently presented a range of services and innovations at the AccessAbilities Expo 2024 in Dubai, focusing on enhancing accessibility for travelers with disabilities. Among the unveiled products were a virtual reality airport tour, a sign language robot, and an app providing video support to visually impaired users.

The airline emphasized its ongoing commitment to accessible travel, strengthened by the introduction of the Emirates Accessibility Policy and the launch of the Office of Accessibility and Inclusion. This initiative is aimed at ensuring inclusivity throughout all stages of travel.

One notable innovation is Emirates' integration into the Be My Eyes app, which offers video support for blind and low vision customers. "Emirates will soon be integrated into the Be My Eyes app for the blind and low vision community," making it a pioneer in this service among airlines.

For neurodivergent travelers, Emirates introduced a sensory guide developed with IBCCES to help navigate Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport. The guide informs about potential sensory stimuli such as sound and light levels encountered during their journey.

A new addition to their services is an accessible chauffeur drive vehicle equipped with an electric wheelchair lift. "Currently, the wheelchair accessible vehicle is used for First and Business Class customers availing of chauffeur drive services based in Dubai," with plans for broader availability.

Emirates showcased several prototypes from its Innovation Lab, including a sign language robot designed to assist deaf or hearing-impaired passengers by providing travel information through sign language gestures.

Other initiatives include a virtual reality tour that allows passengers to familiarize themselves with Terminal 3 remotely, highlighting inclusive services like priority lanes and accessible boarding gates.

In-seat accessibility tools were also displayed at the expo, featuring noise-cancellation headphones beneficial for neurodiverse customers and various devices aiding mobility within aircraft cabins.

Emirates continues to offer inflight entertainment features like Closed Captions (CC) and Audio Description (AD) to assist those with hearing or vision impairments. The upcoming A350 aircraft will feature user interfaces tailored specifically for blind or low-vision passengers.

Training programs have been implemented for over 29,000 cabin crew and ground staff worldwide since 2022. These programs cover topics such as recognizing autism and assisting passengers with hidden disabilities.

Collaboration with entities like Dubai Airports reflects Emirates' dedication to implementing best practices across all aspects of travel. This aligns with Dubai's D33 agenda aiming to enhance living standards in the city.
