Federal Express Corporation, commonly known as FedEx, has announced a new flight route that will increase cargo capacity in Central America. This initiative connects Miami with Guatemala and Honduras, providing an additional daily cargo capacity of up to 52,000 pounds. The move is expected to enhance connectivity for businesses in the region when importing and exporting goods to the United States and other global markets.

The service will be operated by a FedEx Boeing 757 aircraft with five weekly flights. The route begins at Miami International Airport, makes stops at La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City, and continues to Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport in San Pedro Sula, Honduras before returning to Miami.

Basil Khalil, Vice President of Operations for FedEx in the Caribbean and Central America, stated: “The addition of this new flight is a proactive decision to address the demand in the region and deepen cooperation with the local market.” He emphasized FedEx's long-term commitment to growth within Guatemala over its 24-year presence there.

This development aims to bolster collaboration with key industries in Guatemala such as coffee and textiles—top exports identified by the Guatemalan Exporters Association (AGEXPORT). Additionally, sectors like Ornamental Plants, Foliage, Flowers also stand to benefit from increased export capacity. AGEXPORT reports indicate that these sectors ended 2023 with exports valued over $116 million and expect continued growth into 2024.
