Global business aircraft flights fall amid regional disparities

Business aircraft flight activity experienced a decline in June, with a 3.4% drop compared to the previous year, according to TraqPak data from Argus International. North America saw a decrease of 4.9%, while Europe experienced an 8% reduction. However, these declines were somewhat offset by an 18.5% increase in other regions worldwide.

Argus analysts had anticipated a 3.2% decrease in North American activity for June and project a slight increase of 0.2% for July. In contrast, European flying is expected to decline by another 5.1%.

In North America, fractional flying rose by 12.1% year over year in June, but Part 135 and Part 91 activities decreased by 5.3% and 10.2%, respectively. Midsize jets experienced the smallest reduction at just 0.2%, while light jets fell by 5.9%, turboprops by 6.3%, and large-cabin jets by 10.4%. Fractional midsize jets performed well with a significant increase of 14.8%, whereas Part 135 large-cabin jet operations suffered the most substantial decline at 15.2%.

In Europe, light jet activity managed a modest gain of 0.8%, midsize jets remained stable, but turboprops and large-cabin jets saw declines of 20.7% and 11.2%, respectively.

The rest of the world witnessed more than a 20% surge in turboprop and light- to midsize-jet flying compared to last year, although large-cabin jets only increased slightly by 0.5%.

"June was mostly status quo for our activity levels around the globe," stated Travis Kuhn, Argus senior vice president of software development."North America and Europe are sluggish but still remain up from pre-Covid levels, while the remaining regions of the world continue to see yearly growth." Kuhn also noted that they are closely monitoring Part 135 activity as well as the Part 91 market following its double-digit annual decline in June.
