Dean Bracewell Independent Non-Executive Director (Appointed 20 April 2020) | Air New Zealand

Air New Zealand is set to introduce its own wine label, Thirteen Forty Five, as a tribute to the airline's first flight from Auckland to Sydney in 1940. This venture into winemaking will offer customers exclusive wines both in-flight and on the ground.

The new label, named after the 1345-mile distance of the inaugural flight operated by Air New Zealand's predecessor TEAL (Tasman Empire Airways Limited), aims to celebrate a pivotal moment in aviation history that connected New Zealand with international destinations.

In partnership with Villa Maria, part of Indevin Group, Air New Zealand has crafted Thirteen Forty Five wines featuring a signature sauvignon blanc and pinot noir. These bespoke blends are developed in Marlborough, one of New Zealand's renowned wine regions.

Kylie McGillivray-Brown, Air New Zealand General Manager Customer Experience, emphasized the careful crafting process: "This wasn't about simply putting our label on a bottle - we've collaborated with Indevin's world-class winemakers to craft these unique blends, creating an exclusive experience for our customers."

She added that each glass serves as "a toast to the journeys that have connected New Zealanders with each other and New Zealand to the world."

Thirteen Forty Five will be available starting March in Premium Economy cabins, Air New Zealand lounges, and through the Airpoints Store. It will also be offered during Koru Hour on select domestic flights for a limited time.

Air New Zealand continues to highlight local wines across its services. In Business Premier cabins, passengers can enjoy an extensive selection of wines from various regions like Waiheke Island and Central Otago. Local wineries are annually invited to submit their selections for review by the airline’s Wine Ambassadors.

"From Waiheke Island to Central Otago," McGillivray-Brown stated, "it's a privilege to showcase the very best of New Zealand winemaking and share it with the world."
