California's San Diego International Airport is set to expand its international offerings with the introduction of flights to Amsterdam, marking its tenth international destination. Starting in May 2025, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will offer thrice-weekly flights from San Diego to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. This development makes KLM the seventh international airline providing nonstop services from San Diego.

The new route adds Amsterdam to the list of European cities accessible directly from San Diego, joining existing routes to London and Munich. The service will be operated using a Boeing 787-9 aircraft, featuring different seating classes including World Business Class and Economy Class.

Kimberly Becker, CEO and President of San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, expressed enthusiasm for the new connection: “We are very pleased to have KLM join as the 19th carrier at SAN." She highlighted that "Amsterdam...will be the 10th international destination offered from SAN."

Boaz Hulsman, Vice President of Commercial, North America at Air France-KLM, emphasized the importance of this route for their network: “The launch of KLM's direct service between Amsterdam and San Diego marks an exciting milestone in our North American expansion."

KLM is also planning other long-haul routes next year. These include a triangle route connecting Georgetown in Guyana via Sint Maarten starting June 2025 and a new service to Hyderabad in India beginning September 2025.

These expansions come as part of broader growth plans for San Diego International Airport which is currently undergoing significant developments including additional gates and amenities as part of its New T1 project.
