Apart from the well-known Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), several other airports serve the Los Angeles area, providing alternative options for travelers. John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County is the second-largest airport in the region, handling 11.7 million passengers in 2023. Southwest Airlines has a significant presence there, and popular routes include Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Seattle.

Ontario International Airport (ONT) is another major facility, processing 6.4 million passengers last year. Located east of downtown Los Angeles, it offers an extensive route network that includes New York and Honolulu. China Airlines also operates flights to Ontario from Taipei.

Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) handled over 6 million passengers last year and is undergoing expansion with a new terminal expected to open in October 2026. Southwest Airlines dominates this airport with a 63% market share.

Long Beach Airport (LGB) connects Los Angeles to various US destinations and handled 3.7 million passengers last year. Following JetBlue's departure, Southwest Airlines now accounts for most of its activity.

San Bernardino International Airport (SBD), the smallest commercial airport in the area, saw only 20,000 passengers but serves as a hub for cargo airlines like Amazon Air and FedEx Express.

In contrast, LAX processed over 75 million passengers in 2023 but still fell short of its pre-pandemic peak of 88 million. Delta Air Lines holds the largest market share at LAX, followed by American Airlines and United Airlines. The busiest international routes were London Heathrow, Guadalajara, and Seoul Incheon.
