The airline aims for mid-teens operating margins, 10% EPS growth, $3-$5 billion in free cash flow, and a 1x gross leverage ratio. It anticipates an 11% operating margin by year-end with a 2.7x gross leverage ratio.
Delta attributes its success partly to its strong brand presence, achieving a 114% unit revenue premium compared to other US airlines. It also reported having a net promoter score 26 points higher than American Airlines and United Airlines.
Looking at Q4 of 2024, Delta expects a 30% increase in pre-tax profit after positive quarterly results. The company identified several consumer trends driving demand: robust US consumer confidence in travel spending across generations prioritizing experiences; increased demand for premium travel; corporate travel; international travel; and rapid industry changes supporting improved financial returns.
High-income travelers play a significant role in this growth as they accounted for 75% of air travel spending. Millennials contribute notably with up to 36% more wealth than previous generations at their age group levels.
In efforts towards becoming the leading airline globally through operational investments such as technology transformation networks or fleet upgrades—like enhanced Delta Sky Club lounges—the company plans substantial reinvestment from an estimated annual operating cash flow between $9 billion-$11 billion while returning half towards shareholders' benefits too.
Furthermore, capacity oversupply moderation within industry sectors has led unit revenues upwards again since declining throughout last year alongside increasing premium seat availability aboard
