FedEx has announced an increase in the frequency of its international cargo flights connecting Xiamen, China, to the United States. This expansion also marks the inauguration of FedEx's Xiamen international gateway facility. FedEx is currently the only international express company operating such flights from Xiamen.

The newly expanded service will operate five times a week, enhancing logistics capabilities in Fujian by offering more efficient access to global markets. The flight departs from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and includes stops in Incheon, South Korea, before reaching Anchorage, Alaska, and Memphis, Tennessee. This new schedule reduces transit times for shipments from Fujian to North America by one to two days.

Robert Chu, Vice President of FedEx China, stated that "China is pivotal to FedEx’s global strategy," emphasizing that this expansion will boost capacity and extend services to more cities within China. The Xiamen gateway at Gaoqi International Airport spans over 3,800 square meters and integrates advanced sorting technology for improved operational efficiency.

FedEx's presence at the Airport Cargo Terminal International Express Centre of Iport Group allows for streamlined customs clearance processes due to an integrated express handling system. A water salute ceremony was held at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport to welcome the FedEx B777 freighter used on this route.

FedEx has maintained a strategic collaboration with the Xiamen Municipal Government since March 2023 aimed at optimizing air cargo operations in the city. These developments are part of efforts to transform Xiamen into an international logistics hub.

Fujian's import and export value saw a slight increase in 2024 compared to previous years, with significant contributions from Xiamen's trade activities. The new flight service aims to further enhance connectivity between Fujian and major regions like Asia and North America.

This year marks FedEx's 40th anniversary in China. Since its market entry in 1984, FedEx has focused on strengthening its infrastructure through technological advancements such as big data and AI. The company now operates over 300 flights weekly in and out of China across six gateways including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Qingdao, and now Xiamen.
