ZIPAIR Tokyo, a low-cost carrier founded by Japan Airlines, has expanded its network to include ten international destinations across seven countries. As of this month, the airline operates domestically to one destination and aims to grow its fleet to 20 planes by the end of the decade.

In October, ZIPAIR announced Houston as its next American destination. Jim Szczesniak, Director of Aviation for Houston Airports, stated: "This new partnership with ZIPAIR aligns perfectly with the mission of Houston Airports to connect the people, businesses, cultures and economies of the world to Houston. By adding more airline partners like ZIPAIR, we're responding to growing passenger demand for international travel options. This new route to Tokyo not only strengthens our global connectivity but also offers travelers more flexibility and affordability, ensuring Houston remains a premier gateway for global travel."

According to Cirium's data, there are 1,346 flights scheduled between Japan and California next month. Seven airlines serve these routes with ZIPAIR offering service on three routes in California.

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is set to receive daily flights from Narita Airport in Tokyo operated by ZIPAIR’s Boeing 787-8s configured with 290 seats. The flight departs Narita at 14:45 and arrives in Los Angeles at 07:30 on the same day; it returns from Los Angeles at 09:30 arriving in Tokyo at 14:25 the following day.

ZIPAIR faces competition on this route from Japan Airlines, ANA, Singapore Airlines, and United Airlines. However, as a low-cost carrier with high-density seating arrangements on its aircrafts compared to competitors' configurations that include more premium seating options.

San Francisco International Airport will see similar services with ZIPAIR operating alongside Japan Airlines, ANA and United. Each airline provides daily services but ZIPAIR offers the largest seat capacity due to its uniform aircraft configuration.

At San Jose Mineta International Airport south of San Francisco Bay Area region—ZIPAIR will operate three weekly flights starting December after a short pause in November—with no other airlines providing long-haul connections from this airport currently available until March when service resumes again post-February hiatus.
