The United States Air Force, recognized as one of the most powerful air forces globally, operates an estimated 4,000 aircraft. This number increases to approximately 5,000 when trainers and drones are included. In comparison, China's air force comprises around 3,150 aircraft, while the combined fleet of the US Navy and Marines totals about 3,300.

Among the most common aircraft in the US Air Force is the F-16 Fighting Falcon. "The most common fighter jet remains the F-16 Fighting Falcon," with approximately 738 jets in combat service. The F-16 has been in service since August 1978, with over 4,600 units built. Despite being a fourth-generation fighter jet, continuous updates have kept it competitive.

Another significant aircraft is the B-52 Stratofortress. "The B-52 (also called BUFF) may be the oldest combat aircraft in the United States Air Force," yet it remains prevalent with 72 units in service out of a total of 744 built since February 1955. The B-52H is undergoing upgrades to extend its operational life well into future decades.

The C-130 Hercules and its variant C-130J Super Hercules serve as tactical airlifters for the Air Force. With a combined total of 277 units in service since December 1956 and over 3,000 built overall, these aircraft are essential for transport operations.

The MQ-9 Reaper represents the Air Force's primary unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). "The MQ-9 Reaper is the most common large unmanned combat aerial vehicle operated by the United States Air Force." Since entering service in May 2007, more than 300 units have been produced.

Lastly, there is the T-38A Talon advanced jet trainer. "The T-38A Talon (of all variants) remains the Air Force's most common trainer" with 495 units currently operational since March 1961.

These aircraft highlight some of the key components of America's air power capabilities across various roles including combat missions, strategic bombing, tactical transport operations, unmanned reconnaissance and strike missions, and pilot training.
