San Diego airport hosts long-haul flights despite single runway

San Diego International Airport, despite being a single-runway facility, is capable of handling long-haul flights to international destinations. Presently, the airport serves several routes exceeding 5,000 miles. Lufthansa operates the longest route from San Diego to Munich Airport, spanning 6,024 miles. The airline plans 21 flights from Munich to San Diego this December using the Airbus A350-900 with various seating configurations.

British Airways connects San Diego with London Heathrow over a distance of 5,485 miles. Flights will be operated almost daily in December using the Airbus A350-1000 model, which accommodates up to 331 passengers.

Air France offers less frequent service between Paris Charles de Gaulle and San Diego, covering 5,698 miles with two flights planned for December. The carrier also uses the Airbus A350-900 on this route.

Japan Airlines provides Asian representation at San Diego International by flying between Tokyo Narita and San Diego over a distance of 5,557 miles. This route utilizes Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners equipped with business and economy class seating.
