Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) has announced the appointment of several construction firms for its $220 million modernization project, set to be completed by the first quarter of 2026. The entire project is expected to cost up to $575 million, with further financial details to be disclosed in early 2026. Fitch and Moody’s have rated CVG A+ stable and A1 stable, respectively.

The airport's plan includes expanding and renovating the main terminal and concourses A and B. This will involve updates to the baggage handling system, ticketing system, security checkpoints, baggage claim area, restrooms, escalators and elevators, as well as the tunnel and train.

Candace McGraw, CEO of CVG, expressed enthusiasm about the project: "It is time to modernize our facilities for our travelers and employees, and we are taking an intentional approach to boost efficiency and elevate the passenger experience. We are thrilled to have a qualified, collaborative team onboard to assist with program/construction management and design and build aspects of this complex, multi-year modernization program."

The joint venture AECOM Hunt – Skanska will undertake the $208 million portion of the project as design-build contractors. This team comprises Dallas-based AECOM, Indianapolis-based Hunt Construction Group, and New York-based Skanska USA. They were selected over Messer Construction and Weitz Co.

Jerry Sheets from AECOM Hunt stated: "The modernization of CVG will be a game-changer, and AECOM Hunt–Skanska is proud to collaborate with CVG to reimagine and redefine the airport experience. As part of the Elevate CVG program, we will introduce state-of-the-art improvements to the terminal and concourses through a phased approach that minimizes the impact on travelers."

STV Construction has been appointed as the project manager for Elevate CVG. Joe Thompson from STV commented: “The new CVG will address the airport's immediate needs while also providing long-term value to airlines and travelers. STV’s program management and construction management expertise will help modernize CVG, streamline connections, and create a better passenger experience.”

Additionally, BEUMER group has been chosen for replacing the baggage handling system. The project's phased schedule aims to minimize disruptions for passengers with completion expected by 2029.
