Airbus A380 | Airbus

The Airbus A220, a narrowbody aircraft initially designed by Bombardier and later acquired by Airbus, is known for its efficiency and versatility. It was unveiled at the Farnborough International Air Show in July 2008 and rebranded from the CSeries to the A220 following Airbus's acquisition of a controlling share in October 2017.

There are two variants of the A220: the A220-100, which typically seats 100 to 120 passengers in a two-cabin configuration, and the larger A220-300, which seats between 120 to 150 passengers. The primary competitor of the A220 is Embraer's E2 jet family, consisting of the E190-E2 and E195-E2 models.

In the United States, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, and Breeze Airways operate the A220. Delta uses both variants with a total fleet of 73 aircraft and another 72 on order. JetBlue operates only the larger variant with 38 aircraft currently and has ordered an additional 62. Breeze Airways also operates only the -300 variant with a fleet of 33 aircraft and expects another 61.

Data from Cirium indicates that there are five routes above 2,350 miles in December operated by these airlines within the US. Breeze Airways operates two routes: Richmond to San Francisco (2,449 miles) without competition and Norfolk to Los Angeles (2,371 miles), ending service in January 2025. JetBlue operates flights from New York to Reno (2,411 miles) and Boston to Las Vegas (2,381 miles), dominating these markets despite other airlines' presence on some routes. Delta Air Lines serves New York to Palm Springs (2,378 miles) weekly during winter.

Globally, airBaltic leads with eight of the longest A220 routes worldwide; however, none surpasses those found domestically in terms of length compared to international standards.
